DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY INFORMATION

The department of biochemistry was founded at the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University in 2002 by professor Volodymyr Lushchak. The department has been always aiming at forming its capacity mostly in the international context, and more specifically at:

  *   attracting the Western Universities for as many collaborative projects as possible;

  *   getting international financing for its research and educational projects;

  *   publishing mostly in the English-language peer-reviewed journals;

  *   stimulating its staff and students to master English language.

The department has been conducting research on biochemistry of plants, animals, and microorganisms. Most of the efforts are currently focused on the following topics:

  *   Interaction between nutrition, aging, and metabolic abnormalities. Development of the correctional mechanisms for the metabolic dysfunctions.

  *   Molecular mechanisms for the trans-generational reprogramming of the metabolism.

  *   Microclonal propagation of plants.

  *   Hybridoma technology for obtaining monoclonal antibodies.

The head of the department Volodymyr Lushchak is the member of the Science Board of the National Science Foundation of Ukraine. In this capacity, he is involved in the policy development for granting financial support to research and technology in Ukraine. That said, the department of biochemistry is one of the most active departments on the national level in the efforts of reforming the domain of science in Ukraine.

Starting in 2013, the department has been organizing the scientific summer schools on its premises. The address is: Ivano-Frankivsk, Halytska Street 201.

The departmental staff and students are all waiting for each annual summer school in anticipation of new contacts, ideas, and opportunities. We are ready to help all potential participants of the DAAD summer school 2019 with the accommodation in the city of Ivano-Frankivsk for the duration of the event.

To learn more about the scientific summer schools at the department of biochemistry of the Precarpathian National University and about the department itself, please go at https://kbb.pnu.edu.ua/ .
